Why we exist

Independent Insights aims to improve public understanding of under-polled jurisdictions by giving voters a direct opportunity to share their views and concerns through the polls we conduct.

Our work is nonpartisan, not-for-profit, entirely self-funded, and self-commissioned. Every poll we run is published in full on this site, in the hope that it can inform government policy and meaningfully reflect the concerns of the people we survey.

How we work
  1. Identify the gap

We look for jurisdictions and races — provincial, state, or local — where independent public polling is thin or absent, regardless of how competitive the race is expected to be.

  2. Field the survey

Surveys are distributed to reach a broad cross-section of eligible voters, most often through online outreach, with clear eligibility screening applied before analysis.

  3. Weight the sample

Responses are weighted against known population benchmarks — typically age, sex, and region — to correct for over- or under-representation in the raw sample.

  4. Publish everything

Every release includes the full methodology: sample size, effective sample size, margin of error, question wording, and complete crosstabs — not just the headline numbers.
